NADA Issues Statement on Ford's

The National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA), which represents some 17,000 dealers with about 37,500 franchises in the U.S., has issued a statement through its chairman, Ed Tonkin, expressing some concerns about Ford's decision to discontinue its Mercury brand (click here for more details) and end production at the end of this year. "It's a sad day for this 70-year-old marque, and its loss is disappointing for the more than 1,700 dedicated dealers who sell the Mercury brand.

NADA's concern is that Ford treats each of its Mercury dealers fairly and equitably, especially the 276 of whom sell Lincoln and Mercury exclusively. Another important concern is that Mercury customers be reassured by Ford, and that all warranties will be honored and parts and service will continue to be available.

Ford also needs to move quickly to take into account the millions of dollars that dealers have invested in facilities, equipment, personnel and training. They deserve fair compensation."

As impressive of a vehicle as the seminal Volkswagen Phaeton may have been, the uber-luxe German sedan was an unqualified flop of an experiment here in the United States. In some other parts of the world, though, VW's BMW and Mercedes-Benz (not to mention VW-owned Audi) competitor is still going strong.

Hence, VW has seen fit to give the Phaeton a mild update for the 2011 model year, and it tellingly used the Beijing Motor Show as the platform to reveal its top-shelf sedan. In case you missed the exterior changes, take a closer look at the front and rear fascias, where you'll find tighter lines and new LED lighting.

It's inside the cabin where the Phaeton gets the bulk of its improvements. Included in the refresh is VW's latest navigation technology, along with a helpful seeing-eye camera that can monitor speed limit and no passing signs and inform lazy drivers of the data. There is also a lane-departure system that keeps the car between the proper lines and Dynamic Light Assist that adjusts the headlights to keep from blinding oncoming traffic.

Powertrain options remain the same as before, with a 450-horsepower 6.0-liter W12 engine taking top billing over a 335-hp 4.2-liter V8 and a 3.6-liter V6 that puts out 280 ponies. Finally, those looking to save a few bucks at the pump can opt for a 3.0-liter diesel V6. Check it out for yourself in the high-res image galleries below.

High car prices deterred buyers

* 55 percent of people are asked not to buy a new car
* Almost half of the debt increased costs of manufacturers

The continued price increases, people have when buying a new car, according to a study by Parker.

Asked little more than half of men said they would not buy a new car this year and gave 47 percent of them, so that the price of new cars.

Buying a New Car? Use Feng Shui to Select Your Success Color

With September’s arrival comes the annual car buying season. But while selecting the type of car comes easily to most people, making a decision on the color of a car can be a stumbling block. Some people simply go with their favorite color, while others mull over color choices by considering factors such as climate, type of vehicle use, or the most practical choice, going with what is least likely to show dirt. But what if even that fails? Then try feng shui. Yes, feng shui, the Chinese guide used for arranging homes and offices, can also be used for selecting colors based on an individual’s own personal feng shui.

According to personal feng shui, each person has an individual feng shui number that is based on gender and date of birth. This number, also called a “kua" number is associated with a color. By selecting the correct color for an individual’s particular feng shui number, the driver will experience better luck over all because the color is harmonized with that individual.

Use personal feng shui to select a “success" color, which can be helpful when buying that luxury sedan. More into soccer practice than boardrooms? Choose a “family" color. Both colors are determined by the driver’s kua number. To determine the driver’s kua number, and subsequently the color of car that is appropriate, use the instructions below and then check the chart that follow for selecting a success or family color. Now, who should drive the Mary Kay pink Cadillacs? Anyone with a number 3 kua number!

The calculation is as follows:

-Take the year of birth, i.e., 1971

-Add the last two years together (7+1=8)

For men, subtract the number from 10 (10-8+2); 2 is the kua number

For women, add 5 to the number (5+8=13; 1+3= 4); 4 is the kua number
